What is ICSI?
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a type of IVF (in vitro fertilisation) treatment where a single sperm is injected into a mature egg. Later the fertilised egg or the embryo is transferred into the womb for further development.
Need for ICSI Treatment
ICSI treatment is needed when sperm is unlikely to fertilize an egg under situations, such as:
*Low sperm motility
*Low sperm count
*Frozen sperm
*High rate of abnormal sperms
*Failed previous fertilisation methods
*High levels of antibodies in the semen
Benefits of ICSI treatment
ICSI is a beneficial treatment for those females whose male partner is having infertility concerns.
Procedure
Eggs are collected from the female donor and are transferred into the culture media in a laboratory. The collected eggs are kept under temperature and humidity control for a specific period of time. After the right amount of time, an embryologist will inject healthy sperm into the selected egg. Later, fertilization is checked after 18 hours.
